Social Media Tips for Small Businesses

in Small Businesses

Social media works well for small businesses. It’s not just for large corporations with a large budget. In fact, starting a social media campaign is very affordable (much more so than traditional advertising) and so the use of social media is especially suited for a small business.

Four things you should be doing today to promote your small business using social media:

1. Start a company blog. Building and writing a blog is a bit time consuming, although you can delegate it to a professional blogger of course, but it creates a way to connect with users and engage them on your own website. Additionally, regularly updated, optimized blog content with correct internal linking can improve your search engine rankings for your main keywords.

2. Create a Twitter account. In my experience, Twitter is the most viral of the social media platforms available to us today. It’s a great way to connect with clients and customers in real time and there are plenty of examples of small businesses that significantly grew their business by using Twitter.

3. Integrate online and offline advertising. Add your blog URL and your Twitter account URL to offline marketing materials such as brochures. This acts as social proof, demonstrates that you’re up-to-date on all the new tools, and invites potential customers to visit your community and become part of it.

4. Use social media to engage your customers. Ask questions, post polls, and create contests. Social media users love contests and they love to retweet them and spread the word, which can significantly grow your exposure and create new leads and new loyal customers.

Another great way to use social media is to post product discount codes to your social media channels – this will encourage more people to join your community. Anyone who joins your community has the potential to become a customer.
